Chief's Headdress (Sumba)

It is hard to say where this intricate shape of headdress comes from. Probably it was a result of European feather hat's influence. It is also interesting that the hat is hand-made from wire, a rare and valuable resource for locals, which only a shaman may possess. Sumba, Indonesia, 20th cent.
