Wedding headdress

Ladies of the tribe of the flower (or striped) Hmong in the Lao Cai province in Vietnam are very proud of this headdress. They wear it not only for the wedding: a month after the wedding the bride will appear in public only in this wrap of silk stuffed with cotton wool and decorated with a fringe of Chinese aluminum coins or glass beads. This is to ensure that the village gets used to the idea that this girl is married now. The Hmong themselves say the headdress protects its owner from evil spirits and promotes effectiveness of family life. Vietnam, Lao Cai.
