Black hat is perhaps the most common headdress of the traditional costume of the European nations. However, first it was worn by men, only since the 17th century women began wearing hats as well and almost three centuries later it is mostly women who wear this headdress. In Bavaria, where it was made in the 19th century, hats were made of felt or velvet and necessarily decorated with long ribbons. Germany, Bavaria, 19th cent.
