The headdress, made of cardboard-framed red cotton cloth, is reminiscent of the Russian soroka in the form made in the province of Orel. But this one was made with no upper tip, and thus it was meant for an unmarried young woman. Festive, “youth” coloring of the strotchka also evidences this: for its decoration around the perimeter was selected the brightest patches of clothe and ornaments to match. This headdress is called strotchka (stitch) because its decorative element was sewn as a to a line, top to bottom, one stitched line after another. Ukraine, Kharkov.
