Kirov region of Kaluga oblast, late 19th - early 20th century. Made from factory blue denim with red floral pattern, inserts of red calico on either side. The headband, which ties at the back, is based on a hard cardboard of trapezoidal form covered with red calico, beads and jewelry factory buttons sewn on top. It features temple pendants of crossed strands of multicolored beads. The item combines several elements traditionally considered independent: volosnik (tight-fitting skullcap with ties in the back), kichka based on a solid front and the soroka, the cloth covering kichka. By the 19th century, all three components were combined into one headdress. A scarf is worn over the soroka.
