Povoynik is largely a conditional name; this term denotes numerous kinds of headdresses, which have different shapes depending on the region or even a district in Central Russia. For example, this version of Bryansk is a small quilted cap, the shape is more reminiscent of the Central Asian skullcap, with three long ribbons sewn on the back. It sports rather interesting decorations: a large number of pearl buttons, colorful rivets, and brocade thread. A true festive headdress. Russia, Bryansk, 19th cent.
