The variant of povoinik from Bryansk is the headdress of married women; it is actually a broad bandage with a cape over it covering hair. Behind it is fixed on the head with ties. Rich patterns of the cape with the fringe of wool suggest that it was worn without the traditional headscarf. To add more beauty on holidays in the rear of the povoinik would be sewn colorful embroidered ribbons descending on the shoulders of a woman in the front. Russia, Bryansk, early 20th cent.
