This stylish men’s hat was acquired in a small fishermen’s Gala village in the west of Portugal. We could not find any information about the origin of this peculiar form of the man’s headgear, but we can assume that it was modeled from military helmets of the second half of the 18th - early 19th century of the European armies. However, unlike the military, this headgear was embroidered with cheerful colors and decorated with numerous pompons that make the Monteiro hat part of a festive costume. Portugal, Coimbra, Gala.
