The similar fashion of women’s headdress of cylindrical shape is common throughout the Baltic States, and in the northern regions of Russia. Initially, it was a broad bandage around the head, but eventually it acquired a closed top and is stapled in the back and not tied. Embroidery of floral patterns and delicate fringe along the bottom edge of the headdress remained unchanged, though. Linik originates in the village of Pöide on the island of Saaremaa.
