Strictly speaking, it is not made of bamboo, but of the other, denser plant species, common on swampy shores of Lake Inle in the Burmese State of Shan. The ethnic Intha consider themselves to be unique, they don't mix with neither with the Burmese nor the Shans and are proud of their fishing skills. In the early morning, you can see these fishermen’s flatboats all over the surface of the lake, a huge oval basket and the only oar, which the Intha use to steer the boat with one leg, standing for hours on the other. Koop is a local Shan name for the conical hat of this design. Burma, Inle Lake.
