Dressy hats were made of silk of blue shades. The literal translation of the name “janjin-malgay” is “general's hat". In Mongolia they call all kinds of hats with flaps folded upwards malgay, but the janjin-malgay type of hats used to wear senior military officers; the revolutionary leader of the Mongolian people Sukhe-baatar is usually portrayed wearing this hat. The Mongols say the peak of a hat, resting on the dome-shaped crown symbolizes prosperity.
