Chin Zahaung

One of the most secretive and unusual state of Burma is the State of Chin populated by the people who still preserve their uniqueness in a number of ways, including their almost primordial culture. Here you can still meet women whose faces are completely tattooed. Each of the half dozen Chin tribes has its variation of costumes. Women of the Zahaung tribe wear on the head here this kind of a hoop woven from solid cane stalks, with long porcupine quills attached around the entire perimeter and sticking upwards. In front of the hoop is attached a horizontal metal bar, which holds numerous pendants made of shells hanging on both sides of the face. Such a complex headdress is, of course, ceremonial.
