Black Hmong

The Black Hmong inhabit the mountainous regions of northern Laos and Vietnam, by language and culture they are similar to their brethren the Hmong of northern Thailand and the Miao of southern China. Women's scarf, presented here, was bought on the market of Luang Prabang in Laos and is fairly typical for many ethnic groups of the region : the black stripe of fabric, indigo dye, exquisite embroidery at the free end and the inevitable red and green pompoms. the Hmong say that the art of embroidery symbolizes the entire history of the life of the great clans and of all the people with its, I should add, quite tragic fate. Laos, Luang - Prabang.
