These hats are part of the national costume in Brittany (my sample was made in the city of Saint-Thegonnec in the west of the peninsula). It consists of three parts, held together with pins. The round blue cap is worn on the head; two rectangular strips of lace are attached to it, and from top-down the head hang blue satin ribbons. In addition to the ribbons, all components of this headdress are starched so heavily that it seems you touch some plastic. While it is not precisely known when this headgear was born, but Lalesse, a French artist depicted it on his canvases in the mid-19th century. France, Bretagne, Saint Thegonnec.
