Cepure

The traditional hat of wool, dyed in black or dark brown, is common throughout Latvia, its variants differ only slightly from each other in style. This type exists in Kurzeme, in the west of the republic: the hat has a flat cylindrical shape crown, and wide brims are slightly bent downwards. The base of the crown wraps a wide black silk ribbon tied at the rear in a nice knot; no other decorations are there. Such hats worn on holidays both peasants and townspeople of old Latvia. Now, perhaps, they have been preserved in museums and collections like this one.
