The ayir kalpak is a high woolen headdress with bent rims lined from inside by thin cloth and decorated by a more expensive cloth on the front. Flower decorations may also be embroidered by golden or white silk thread. In the Middle AGes the kalpak was considered an aristocratic hat but later ordinary people started to wear it, and it is still can be seen in the rural areas of Kazakhstan.
